TRUTH THAT CHALLENGES CORPORATE INTERESTS IS NOT SUPPORTED BY CORPORATE MONEY!
Dear Friend:
Greetings from Peoples Video Network!
We are a group of media activists with hundreds of videos documenting the struggle. We have sent correspondents to the Lacondon Jungle in Mexico, Russia, Cuba, Korea, Puerto Rico, South Africa, the Sudan and Iraq. Here in the U.S. we've gone to Texas Death Row, taped police violence at the picket lines in Detroit, the War Zone in Decatur, Illinois, anti-Klan rallies in Pittsburgh, and protests against racism and right wing terrorism in Buffalo, San Francisco and New York City.
Peoples Video Network still maintains our activist tradition of covering the news that the corporate media would like to bury. We have accomplished a great deal this year:
- We were the only video group that had a record of the entire Million Youth March including police pepper spraying and brutalizing the crowd. We made our footage available to the organizers and the Harlem community to help them in their case against Giuliani and the NYPD.
- We produced and distributed a video of the police attack on the United American Indians of New England on the Day of Mourning in Plymouth in 1997, which helped the organizers win their suit against the town.
- We released two award winning videos, "Genocide by Sanctions" and "Let Iraq Live", publicizing the effects of the sanctions on the people of Iraq where more than 1.5 million people have died since the start of the sanctions.
- We interviewed former U.S. political prisoner, Assata Shakur, in Cuba and released a long and short version of that interview called "Hands Off Assata" in contrast to the NBC travesty of an interview that gave Assata 59 seconds of air time.
- We released a rare interview with Kwame Ture including a discussion of his political views and his opinion on the needed direction of the movement.
- We produced on-the-spot coverage of the police attack on the thousands observing the memorial for Matthew Shepard in New York City.
Your past help has made all this possible. BUT WE MUST DO MORE!
We urgently need your support in order to complete our ongoing projects and to take on new challenges. We need to maintain and service our decks and cameras. We need tape stock and Hi8 videotape. We need to finance a publicity campaign publicizing the videos to be produced. We need funds to adequately store and safeguard our growing archives of footage. Without your contributions, these projects cannot happen. Unlike the corporate media, we have no powerful forces behind us. We have only the strength of our convictions and the growing number of people like you who feel strongly about the need a voice of truth to counter the corporate media. We are fighting a colossus but we can be a powerful alternative if we help each other. Whatever you can give will be greatly appreciated.
